Description

Environment for Allied Enemies

Initially I wanted to force the player to save Janey Warren in the tangles of warship assembly in a space station factory. First, having ships assembled like aircraft is more costly than building them in zero gravity where no large system is required to power the warship tracks or the gravity. Secondly, most of Allied Enemies has a feeling of unpolished, grim, dusty dystopia and a factory seemed to promote construction, progression, and procreation. None of these fit well in the Allied Enemies world.

I changed the environment to a material recycling plant. Still in space, I have freedom to play with many sub environments including zero gravity and airless facilities. The recycling plant serves the same function as before, regarding gameplay, but promotes a feeling of destruction, no progression, and no new creation.

It will also provide more mid game environments with the blue/orange color scheme before switching to silver/red later on.

Also, I don't know if I had expressed this before, but the concept of working side by side with Janey during the game is exhilarating. If you have the right touch on it, iI feel it will be delicious.
